The strange cries of Garth
Its jilted lover is hanging
Hanging motionless in the dark
Run from your dear Nursy
Little Ann down the well
But in trying to save her
Nursy was drowned as well

To speak to the living
We silence the dead
What was left in the air
Murderous and red
Is rubbed from the ether
Electricity doubts
The night she is silent

The clocks have stopped at Acton
And the pictures hang crocked on the wall
The two charming men by the fire
As if invisible go unnoticed at the Ball

Though he meant them no strife
What startled them the most was his image

Mrs. Morris had to overcome her care
Of the clanking and clattering of irons
The sound of which she heard on the stair

This land is terrible
